For those who may not know, panning is the act of sifting through dirt and gravel in search of gold. It's a popular activity in this part of the country, known for its rich mining history

 As a passionate prospector, I have dreamed of traveling far and wide in search of the elusive gold when I retire. From the mountains of California to the rivers of Alaska, I will scour the land with my trusty pan in hand. This week I'm in Calhan, Colorado visiting my brother Mark's Dusty Road Alpaca Ranch. Nestled in the picturesque countryside of El Paso County, Calhan may seem like an unlikely location for gold mining, but I will give it a try.
